He is survived by his children, Kenneth Walter Nikolaisen, Jr. (Cindy), Cynthia Lee Contreras (Rick), Dwayne Elliott Nikolaisen, and DeeAnna Nikolaisen Brockwell (Jimmy); beloved bonus daughter, Catherine Jordan Nikolaisen; sisters, Alice Nikolaisen, Carol Fox, and Barbara McDowell (Ray); brother, Greg Nikolaisen (Sharon); grandchildren, Chance Branden Sine (Tisha), Danielle Ann Nikolaisen, Kayla Elizabeth Nikolaisen, Kaitlyn Rebecca Nikolaisen, Phillip Kenneth Brockwell (Alyssa), and Brandon Elliott Nikolaisen; three great-grandchildren; many cherished nieces and nephews; close friends, Ray and Roxianne Parrish; and his devoted shepherd, Bella.
Ken loved the outdoors- whether fishing and crabbing on the river, hunting in the mountains, or simply enjoying nature. He had a gift for fixing almost anything – “even a broken heart”, as his wife would say.
Ken was the cornerstone of his family. He gave so much- his time, his knowledge, his mechanical skills, and his life lessons- but asked for little in return. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and to help his friends.
Dad, we hope you and Mom are looking down on us and see how deeply we love and miss you both, and how grateful we are for everything you’ve done in your life.
Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
