SFC (Ret.) Kenneth John Young of Prince George, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a brief stay at Dinwiddie Health and Rehab. He was born on November 12, 1932 in Cambridge, MA. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Marga Anna Seitz Young, his father, Morgan Dunn Young, his mother, Mary Santos Cabral Young Estrella, and siblings, Manuel Dunn Young, Anthony Dunn Young, John Dunn Young, Margaret Rose Babbitt, Lawrence Robert Young, Lester Thurston Young, and Jean Meserve Bowen.

Ken met the love of his life in 1955 while stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany. His military orders relocated them to Fort Benning, GA; Fort Lee, VA; and back to Germany several times before ultimately settling at their forever home in 1972. They were blessed to spend 66 years of wedded bliss together and two wonderful children who were born of this union became their pride and joy.

Ken answered the call to serve his country in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly and faithfully completed 22 years of service; first as a Combat Engineer, selected as a member of the 1st Engineer 1st Infantry Division Honor Guard, followed by many years in the Food Service field, serving as a Senior Enlisted Aid to two different Two-Star Generals and one Three-Star General. He was later appointed Food Service Inspector for all units of the U.S. Army 7th Corps in Germany until his military retirement. As an Army Veteran, he managed Bonanza Steakhouse, Annabelle’s Restaurant, The Gourmet Restaurant, KFC, Howard Johnson, and other dining facilities in the Tri-Cities area before working in Food Service at the Kenner Army Hospital in Fort Lee, VA until his retirement in 1994.

During his golden years, he continued to be a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, and Boston Red Sox; he took great pride in maintaining a perfectly manicured yard, he was a bowling league member, and enjoyed spending time with his family above all else. He was also a coin collector, avid picture-taker, unlucky lottery player, and a lover of old Westerns on television and music by Elvis Presley. His legacy will be carried forward through memories of his endless love and dedication to his family, his witty sense of humor, and his profound wisdom he shared generously with those who he loved.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kenneth (“Kenny”) O. Young and wife, Margery (“Margie”) of Petersburg, VA; Michael (“Mike”) P. Young of South Chesterfield, VA; grandson, Christopher (“Chris”) M. Young of Richmond, VA; as well as friends and neighbors. The family would like to share their sincerest gratitude for the exceptional care administered by Dinwiddie Health and Rehab in Dinwiddie, VA. A private service will be held at his final resting place of Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
