Larry Alan Brown, 82, of Prince George, Virginia, joined his Savior on Monday, June 29, 2026. Larry was born and raised in Memphis, TN, and attended Harding University in Searcy, AR, where he double majored in Physics and Mathematics. Shortly after, he earned his Master’s Degree from VCU. Larry met his future bride, Bonnie, in high school. They quickly became high school sweethearts after one of Larry's countless acts of kindness; he saw Bonnie stranded on the roadside with a flat tire and stopped to assist. They dated throughout high school and college, eventually marrying and relocating to Texarkana, Texas, where Larry began his career at Red River Army Depot. After a few years in Texas, they moved to Prince George, VA and remained there for the rest of their lives. Larry worked for the U.S. Army for over 35 years before retiring from Ft. Lee, VA. He transitioned smoothly and happily from his leadership roles at Ft. Lee to his prized role of “Pawpaw”. Larry was a member of The Heights Baptist Church for over 30 years, faithfully served as a deacon for 15 years, and traveled internationally with the mission trips. He enjoyed spreading the word of God, spoiling his children and grandchildren, having lunch with friends, and successfully tackling anything that others would consider a challenge. Larry’s humble, loving, giving, and faith-filled spirit will be greatly missed. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jean Williams Brown; his parents, Toliver J. Brown, Sr and Eula Mae Brown; and his brother, T.J. Brown, Jr.

Larry is survived by daughters, Carol Hopkins and her husband, Mark, and Deborah Piszcz and her husband, Daniel; and grandchildren, Christopher Hopkins (Rebecca), Melissa Hopkins, Natalie Piszcz, and Nicole Piszcz. Larry is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Hallenbeck Brown of Las Vegas, NV and favorite cousin, who is thought of as a brother, Michael Wortham (Amy) of Houston, TX. Larry loved his family and cherished his decades long friendships with Larry and Linda Johnson of Prince George, VA and John and Harriet Finger of Chesterfield, VA.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 12pm - 2pm, Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Larry will be privately entombed beside his wife at Southlawn Memorial Park in S Prince George, VA. Donations in memory of Larry can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, online at www.michaeljfox.org, or to the Mission Fund at The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 Route 1, South Chesterfield, VA 23834, online at www.thb.church.
