IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry G.
Turner, Sr.
March 15, 1950 – December 11, 2025
Larry G. Turner, Sr., 75, of Chester passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Born on March 15, 1950, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mercedes Turner, and was also preceded in death by his older brother, Rudy.
Larry was a longtime member of Chester Presbyterian Church, where his faith and sense of community were important anchors throughout his life. Professionally, he spent more than 30 years working as a Project Manager, most often on complex and demanding projects involving nuclear or chemical plants. His career was built on contract work, which meant frequent moves every 12 to 18 months. Those years took him and his family to many places, each stop another chapter shaped by responsibility, adaptability, and commitment. He eventually settled into his final role with AlliedSignal, later Honeywell, in Chesterfield, where he retired.
Outside of work, Larry had a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and precision. He enjoyed restoring and working on cars, particularly several MGs, but his pride and joy was a 1974 Porsche 911 affectionately named “Freddie.” That passion extended into his membership with the Porsche Club of America, where he found connection with others who shared his appreciation for engineering and performance.
Larry also enjoyed sport shooting, a hobby well suited to his patience, focus, and respect for discipline. Through it, he valued not just the skill involved, but the camaraderie and shared respect among those who participated. He was a member of the Conservation Park of Virginia, where he spent time enjoying the sport and the community around it.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Turner; three children, Larry Turner Jr., Jennifer Harris (Chris), and Chris Turner (Melissa Murray); grandchildren, Reid, Carson, Ava and Naomi; uncle, Norris Windham (Mamie) of Maryland, and his nephews Derek and Brad Turner. In addition to his family, he leaves behind his beloved dog, Lucy, who rarely left his side.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Petersburg & Colonial Heights, 104 Pickwick Ave, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
