Laura “Peggy” Ashby Clements, 86, of Matoaca, VA, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025. Born in Petersburg, VA on March 10, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Ashby and Lucy B. Ashby. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Herbert L. Clements, Sr.; granddaughter, Amy J. Cornett; brother, William Ashby; and her twin brother, Carl Ashby.
She is survived by her son, Herbert “H.L” Clements, Jr. and wife, Diana “Dinky”; daughter, Pamela Bullock and husband, Butch; granddaughters, Angela J. Jennings and husband, Tony and Brittany Jessup and husband, Andrew; grandson, Brent Clements and wife, Sabrinia; great-grandchildren, Dante Jennings and fiancé, Meghan Oferral, Nate Jennings, Taylor Cornett, Brandon Cornett, Whitten Jessup, Drake Jessup, and Skyler Clements.
Peggy was her husband’s secretary and partner in his heating and air business for many years. She loved going out on the boat to Lake Chesdin, whether they caught any fish or not. She loved to dance, her cat, Lucy, cooking big meals for her family during the holidays, and was well known for her famous dishes, broccoli bread and cream puffs.
A service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
