Leon Riggs

Leon Eugene Riggs (Gene) of Colonial Heights passed away on March 11, 2023. He was born November 11, 1934 to the late Henry L. and Leola W. Riggs and was preceded in death by his wife, Judith B. Riggs. He is survived by his son David Riggs (RuthAnn) of Cumming, GA, daughter Karen Riggs of Midlothian, VA; three granddaughters: Mackenzie Emerson (Austin), Alexa Riggs, (Henry), and Carly Riggs of Bland, VA; a brother, Charles Riggs of Virginia Beach, VA, three sisters, Darlene Hutcheson of Dinwiddie, Carolyn Daniel of Prince George, and Marilyn Lewis of Petersburg, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gene worked in the insurance industry as a personal lines manager, retiring in 2008 to become a caregiver to his beloved wife. He was a longtime active member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Gene was a friendly, kind, and unassuming man, with a deep love for his family and an unwavering faith. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023 at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Advance Care Hospice and to his caregiver Natasha from Interim Home Health for their wonderful care that allowed Gene to stay home with family for his final months.
