Mrs. Jones was born February 20, 1920, in Rosemary, NC, but moved with her parents to Colonial Heights when she was eight years old. Mrs. Jones was the first female employee hired by Colonial Heights when it was a town in 1938. Mrs. Jones was the administrative secretary for several city managers after the city became a City Manager-Council form of government in 1960. She became the Administrator of Payroll and Purchasing before retiring after 30 years of service. Mrs. Jones was a pianist for the Men's Bible Class of Highland United Methodist Church for many years before transferring her membership to Memorial Methodist and then later, Wesley United Methodist Church. She played the piano for various functions at the Dunlop Assisted Living Facility before her memory deteriorated. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her parents, Fannie S, and Norman T. Taylor; her sister, Norma T. Thompson, and her second husband, Ernest S. Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bass Jolly of Colonial Heights; her sister, Virginia T. Heiliger of Pittsboro, NC; her two grandsons and their families: Roman L. Gunn and his two children Connor and Madison; Jason S. Gunn and wife, Victoria and their two children Trevor and Grayce. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew: Tonna Jo Thompson Long of Colonial Heights, Lee Ann Heilger Carnes of Lincoln, NE. and Mark A. Heiliger of Raleigh, NC. The family would like to thank Ms. Tracee Cooper Garris, for her love and devotion to Mrs. Jones while she was a resident of the Dunlop House Assisted Living and Alzheimer Facility. We appreciate and express our deepest gratitude to the excellent care that Mrs. Bonnie Wray (Beazley Home Care) provided Mrs. Jones while a patient in her home. We are grateful she made her stay as enriching and comfortable as possible during her final journey with Alzheimer's.
