Marga Anna Seitz Young

May 24, 1934 — July 2, 2023

Prince George

Marga Anna Seitz Young of Prince George, VA passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 2, 2023. Marga was born on May 24, 1934 in Schweinfurt, Germany. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emilie Pfenning Seitz; her father, Otto Seitz; her sisters, Louise Brozart (Paul) and Paula Trimbach (Max), all of Schweinfurt.

Marga met the love of her life in 1955 and became a U.S. Army wife the following year in Schweinfurt. Her husband’s military orders relocated them to Fort Benning, GA; Fort Lee, VA; and back to Germany several times before ultimately settling in their forever home in 1972. She was always proud of being able to teach herself English and independently studied to pass the exam and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in Columbus, GA in 1960.

Although she never visited Germany after settling in Virginia, she continued to have a deep love for her home country and kept in close contact with her sisters and brothers-in-law, phoning or writing them at least once a month. Her family was always her greatest source of joy, raising her sons, babysitting her only grandson, and being an integral part in family gatherings for birthdays and holidays. She also took great pride in keeping an immaculate home. In her spare time, she loved shopping for designer clothes, shoes, and accessories; collecting the latest cooking and cleaning gadgets; and her weekly trips to the beauty shop. She also enjoyed watching QVC, the news, or family programs from earlier decades on television; and reading magazines about homemaking, food, or pop culture.

Marga was a survivor of World War II which left a lasting impression throughout her life. In addition to being a homemaker for the majority of her life, she worked in a ball bearing manufacturing factory in Germany prior to her marriage and in restaurants managed by her husband after his military service. She also found great joy in driving and the independence of having her own car. Her family will fondly remember her as an excellent cook and baker, and as a person who was never afraid to speak her mind.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, SFC (Ret.) Kenneth “Ken” John Young; their sons, Kenneth “Kenny” O. Young and wife, Margery “Margie” of Petersburg, VA; Michael “Mike” P. Young of North Chesterfield, VA; grandson, Christopher “Chris” M. Young of Richmond, VA; as well as friends and neighbors.

A private service will be held at her final resting place of Southlawn Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
