Margaret Jolly Hardy Fontaine entered the gates of Heaven on March 27, 2026 at the age of 98. She was born on April 10, 1927 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Clarence Linwood Jolly and Louise Winckler Jolly and resided in Colonial Heights, Virginia most of her life.

Former member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church where she raised her daughters and began to teach them the importance of faith and strong values. Member of Swift Creek Baptist Church where she served on numerous committees and headed up Vacation Bible School and Senior Twilighters with husband Roland for many years. Honored with the Faithful Servant Award in 2010.

Former member of the Colonial Heights Federated Women’s Club where she served as President and was chosen Outstanding Member for 1975-1976. Past member of the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother Board, Easter Seal Society, American Cancer Society and active in numerous local and state political campaigns. As a true testament to her compassion and love for others she volunteered at Petersburg General Hospital and Southside Regional Hospital for forty-one years and served as Guild President for seven years.

Margaret was predeceased by loving Husband and Father to her daughters William W. “Bill” Hardy, Jr, Husband Roland J. Fontaine, Brothers Kenneth, Warren and Linwood Jolly, Sisters, Elsie Bass, Lois Thomas, Audrey Bell and Frances Spinner, Stepdaughter Cindy Fontaine Cummins, Special Niece Linda Spinner Lowe and beloved grand dogs Maggie and Cooper.

Left to cherish her memory are loving Daughters Debbie Hardy Marek and Lisa Hardy Marek, Grandsons Matthew Marek (Jenny) and Jason Marek, beloved Great Granddaughter Lucina Marek, “adopted” Son Terry Smith and Special Stepson Tim Fontaine (Dona). She was also blessed with three very special nieces who loved her like daughters, Joan Bass Hancock, Jean Bass Welch and Donna Spinner Dennis along with numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

The family would like to thank and extend gratitude to the loving staff of Lucy Corr Healthcare Center for providing Margaret with love and support during her time spent in their care. Special thanks to her devoted CNA Sadonna Richardson who was truly a Godsend and to others too numerous to mention.

Her daily chant was “I want to get up, I want to get UP, UP, UP,” well Mom you are up now…UP in heaven walking with your Lord Jesus Christ!

The family will welcome friends on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society.
