Margaret Adkins Tatum

Margaret Adkins Tatum (“Pris,” “Maggie”), age 99, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023. Born on October 10, 1923, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Carl Edward and Maude Elizabeth Moody Adkins, and was one of five siblings. Margaret was raised in Petersburg (Blandford), Virginia and retired from Fort Lee, Finance Department. Margaret was a longtime and faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she found solace, support, and strength through her spiritual community. 

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward “Bug” J. Tatum, Jr.; her sister, Lillian Adkins Jernigan; her brothers, Carl Edward Adkins, Jr., William Collins Adkins, and Thomas Wade Adkins; and her daughter, Bonnie Tatum Crowley. She is survived by her granddaughter, Tonya Crowley Stallard (Mark); her great-grandchildren, Zachary Alan Jenkins and Taylor Brooke Jenkins, all of Colonial Heights, VA; nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and many dear friends.

Margaret will always be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends. A loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will remain in our hearts and minds, and be dearly missed. Her love, kindness, and strength will live on in all of us.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023. A funeral service to celebrate Margaret’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will follow in her families square in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, 3701 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
