Marion “Polly” Spain Rush, 89, was reunited in Heaven with her devoted husband of 67 years, Karl, on Monday, March 23, 2026. Polly was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, Memaw, great-grandmother and cherished wife. Polly was a resident of the Dunlop House and was known for her bright, colorful wardrobe and matching earrings. She was a long-time member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowshipping with her many friends. Polly was born on February 12, 1937, in DeWitt, Virginia to Wilfred Sydnor Spain and Myrtle Cornelia Coleman Spain. She attended Petersburg High School and worked at Petersburg General Hospital. After marrying the love of her life, Karl, Polly traveled the world with Karl as a devoted Army wife. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Karl Rush; son, Karl Scott Rush; her parents, Wilfred and Myrtle; brother Garland Spain. Polly is survived by her son, Thomas D. Rush and wife, Rene’ S. Rush; her grandchildren, on whom she doted, Brett Rush and wife, Laura and Ashleigh Rush Manon and husband, Jack; great-grandson, Tate; sister Betty Jean (Spain) and husband David Hargrave; nieces Vickie Hargrave and Cheryl Spain O’Keefe and nephews, David Hargrave ( Jeanne, Claire, Robin, Violet, Jacob, and Kevin Hargrave) and David Spain (Kandia, DJ, Allie, Zach, Ted). Polly (and Karl) treasured their close friendship with best friends, sister and husband, Betty Jean and David Hargrave. They spent much time together and went on many outings. Betty Jean and David frequently visited Polly and Karl in Dunlop House which was so appreciated. Polly enjoyed making Magic Bars for the family, getting manicures and pedicures, and shopping for make-up with Ashleigh. Polly and Karl always wore matching outfits and did everything together. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Apil 3, 2026, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will take place privately in Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
