Martin F. Davis

On July 20, 2023, Marty gained his angel wings and is now dancing and singing in Heaven. He was born on August 17, 1956 in Petersburg, Virginia and lived in the area for his entire life.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Elizabeth (Betty) Davis and his favorite aunt, Edith (Edie) Carey.

He is survived by his devoted sisters and brother-in-law, Connie Mallett and Jean Ashton (Danny); brother, Greg Davis (Tammy); Uncle James (Jimmy) Davis; nieces and nephews, Keith Ross (Sasha), Robyn Bodenhamer (Robby), Timothy Ashton (Tiffany), Sara Rose (Kyle), Christopher Davis, Steven Davis (Angel); great nieces and nephews, Caitlyn Bodenhamer (Shianne Hayes), Will Bodenhamer, Lexi Bodenhamer, Makayla Ashton, Hayden Rose, Gunner Ashton, Kennedy Rose, Austyn Bodenhamer, Addison Davis, Emersyn Rose, Olivia Davis and great-great niece, Dawsyn Hayes and many cousins across the country.

Marty participated for many years in Special Olympics with the Colonial Heights group. His favorite sport was bowling but he also enjoyed bocce. Marty received numerous medals and ribbons for his achievements. He enjoyed being with people and made many lifelong friends.

Marty was a kid at heart and loved collecting fans and radios, listening to music and singing, blowing bubbles, playing bingo, being on the boat and fishing and watching television, mostly cartoons. Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Lucy, Full House, the Three Stooges and the Andy Griffith show were among his favorites. His gift was remembering birthdays. He may not have remembered your name but would remember your birthday. In his younger days, you could find him riding his bicycle around his Matoaca neighborhood visiting everyone. Marty never met a stranger.

Marty leaves behind many friends and acquaintances. We would like to extend our love and gratitude to the wonderful team at Winchester Green First Choice Day Program and his friends there as well as his caring case manager, Terrie Martin. Thank you to all those who loved him and cared for him throughout his life and who took care of him during his last few months which includes many nurses, care partners, physicians and other staff at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg, Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Tyler’s Retreat at Ironbridge and Crater Community Hospice (especially his hospice nurse, Josie).
