Mary Charlotte (Kelly) Miller, 83, passed away on August 22, 2026. Known to those who loved her as Charlotte, she was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia. Her father, Joseph Kelly, served in the U.S. Army and was killed in World War II; Charlotte was raised by her mother Alice Kelly.

After marrying her beloved husband, James “Jim” Walter Miller, Charlotte’s life took her to many places as Jim served in the United States Air Force. Along the way, she built a remarkable career and a life centered around caring for others.

Charlotte dedicated her life to nursing, working as an operating room nurse in Columbus, Ohio; Biloxi, Mississippi; Landstuhl, Germany; San Antonio, Texas; and Richmond, Virginia, where she retired from Medical College of Virginia. Nursing was more than a career for Charlotte; it was calling. Her strength, compassion, and dedication touched countless patients and colleagues.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and is survived by her son, James Walter Miller II, and his wife Adrienne Lynn Eoppolo, and her daughter Charlotte Michele Dempsey and her husband David Paul Dempsey.

A devoted Catholic, Charlotte found great happiness in music singing in church choirs and at weddings. She adored her two grandchildren Ireland Rose Miller and Bridget Claire Dempsey, and took immense pride in them. Charlotte loved to feed everyone, especially on holidays. If you came to her house, you were going to eat. She loved to feed everyone, and her turkey was a family tradition on holidays. She had an enormous heart and tenderness toward animals, which was a defining part of who she was.

Charlotte will be deeply missed and will be laid to rest beside Jim at Arlington National Cemetery, where they will be together again.

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11:25-26

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local Humane Society or animal welfare organization in Charlotte’s memory.
