Mary Lou
Herald
May 23, 1939 – April 17, 2026
Mary Lou Herald, 86, of Prince George, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17. She entered eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family and the promise of everlasting life through her faith.
Mary Lou was the beloved daughter of James Monroe Brockwell and Doris Joyner Brockwell, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her cherished son, Jeffery Leon George, Jessie Leon George, the father of her children, and by her siblings James Edward “Bud” Brockwell, Robert A. Brockwell, and Sidney C. Brockwell.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 41 years, Hubert Preston Herald, who stood faithfully by her side. She also leaves behind her dear sister Katherine Tyler (Joe); her children Doris Faye Linkous (Tim) and Donald Wayne Clements; and her beloved stepchildren Pam Pekrum (Kenny), Sherry Harris (Al), Danny Herald (Debbie), and Timmy Herald (Mary); and multiple nieces and nephews that she cherished.
Mary Lou was a proud and loving grandmother to Jennifer Carper (Jeff), Andrew Linkous (Tiffany), Corey Linkous (Clary), Michelle McNally, Matthew Harris (Susan), Melissa Woodard (Jordan), Shannon Herald, Lindsey Herald, and Danny Herald Jr (Christy). She was also blessed with great‑grandchildren Logan Bennett, Caden “Man Man” Linkous, Hailey Bennett, Cooper “Coop Coop” Linkous, Anna Carper, Josie “Missy” Linkous, Isabella “Bella” Linkous, James Harris, Georgia Mae Harris, William Woodard, Daniel Woodard, Tristan Herald, Jacob Herald, Courtney Forrest (Dave), Davy Forrest, Elizabeth Forrest, Leon “Lee” Harris (Tina), and Henry Harris who brought her great joy.
Mary Lou was a devoted cosmetologist and the longtime owner and operator of Mary Lou’s Beauty Shop in Disputanta, Virginia, where she built lasting friendships and brightened countless lives. She was a faithful member of Gary’s United Methodist Church, the Hopewell Moose Lodge, and the Red Hat Club (Sassy Sisters).
She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, and thrift shopping, passions she especially loved sharing with her husband, Hubert. Together, they could often be found visiting local thrift stores or enjoying their daily evening coffee runs to Sadlers, a simple routine that brought them both happiness and togetherness.
She will be remembered for her strong faith, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. While she will be deeply missed, those who loved her find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones, and rejoicing in the presence of her Lord.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 3935 S. Crater Road Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
