Mary Grey Neatrour, 83, of Disputanta passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Born August 17, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Cora Grey, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Duane Neatrour; sister, Betty Sue Handy, furry four-legged companions, Priscella and Mitzy.
Mary retired after 25 years of devoted service at Central State Hospital, where she worked as a secretary for several doctors, earning a reputation for her organization, loyalty, and quiet strength. After her time at the hospital, she took on a new role as an armed security guard with Pinkerton for five years, proving there was little she couldn’t do.
A true believer in natural healing, Mary was deeply interested in herbalism and homeopathy, often the go-to person for remedies and old-world wisdom. She was also a talented artist, known for her detailed drawings and expressive paintings that reflected her unique view of the world. Her creativity extended beyond the canvas and into her passion for thrifting. Mary had an eye for hidden treasures and delighted in collecting all manner of nicknacks, each with their own story and charm.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose Marie Nimmo; son, Charlie Edward Rieves and wife, Dana; grandsons, John Edward Simmons and wife, Amanda, Michael Edward Rieves and wife, Heidi; great-grandchildren, Alexis, John Jr., Pepper; and other extended family members.
Funeral services will be announced soon. Arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
