Mary W. Sarver, of Sutherland, VA, left her earthly home on June 20, 2026, reuniting with her true love, William Edward Sarver. Having shared nearly 72 years of marriage until his passing on October 15, 2021, theirs was a remarkable love story and a life built on devotion, hard work, and joy. Together, they treasured time with family and friends and found special happiness on the water. She loved the holidays, cooking for her family often alongside her husband and she really loved shopping with her friends and her daughter.
Born August 29, 1933 in Princeton, West Virginia, to Watt and Pearl Hylton, Mary was raised alongside her three brothers and two sisters. She moved to Richmond, VA, in 1960, and while Virginia became her home, she was always proud of her West Virginia roots. She especially enjoyed following West Virginia basketball.
Mary devoted more than 35 years to the banking industry, rising to the role of Officer. She took great pride in her work and in all she accomplished throughout her career. She retired from Wachovia Bank in 1997.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Barry Sarver, and his wife, Lorelea Moore; her daughter, Cathy Sarver Martin, and her husband, Jeff Martin; her granddaughter, Brittany Sarver Kiniry, and her husband, Scott Kiniry; her grandson, Ryan Osterbind; and her great-granddaughter, Hadley Kiniry.
In her last years, Mary was blessed to be cared for by several loving caregivers who became like family. In her final months, she was surrounded by the compassionate care of the dedicated staff at the Petersburg Home for Ladies.
A celebration of life will be held at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home at noon on July 6, 2026. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield, VA at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be made to the Petersburg Home for Ladies, a nonprofit senior living home that has cared for women since 1925 or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. The family is grateful for your kindness, prayers, and remembrance. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
