Nancy Vaughan Downey

Nancy Vaughan Downey, 83, of Colonial Heights passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at her residence.  She was born July 13, 1940 to the late Louis and Marjorie Byrd Rich Vaughan and was preceded in death by her husband, Peter L. Downey Sr. and a brother, Louis Vaughan. Mrs. Downey was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights and retired after 40 years as a Public School Teacher after teaching in Henrico County, Petersburg and Chesterfield County Public Schools.  Her passion in life was being a caretaker for everyone over the years.  She is survived by her sons, Peter L. Downey Jr. and wife, Shannon Heady, Christopher Byrd Downey and wife, Christina Downey; sister, Marjorie Pursell and grandchildren, Benjamin, Marguerite, Tess and Sailor.  The family will receive friends Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.  Funeral services will be private.
