Patricia “Pat” McDaniel Moss, lovingly known as “Gaga” to those who adored her most, was born on December 15, 1954, in Richmond, Virginia. She passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2026, at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, faith, and cherished memories. Pat was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, strength, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Pat graduated from Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia, in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Early Childhood Education. During her years at Longwood, she formed lifelong friendships that she treasured throughout her life. It was also in Farmville that she met the love of her life, Lowell Mills Moss. Family members often enjoyed telling the story of their first meeting at a local bar, where Pat playfully introduced herself as “Cheetah.” Interested in getting to know her better, Mills called the next day and asked for “Cheetah,” beginning a romance built on laughter, love, and Pat’s wonderful sense of humor. The two married in 1978 and built a loving family together, raising three children: Brian Moss, Daniel Moss, and Kimberly Hall (Josh).

Pat began her career as an elementary school teacher, sharing her love of learning with young children. Later, she joined the United States Postal Service, where she worked until retirement. She often joked about being a “disgruntled postal employee”—though she did enjoy the friends she worked with. Retirement allowed her to spend more time with the people she loved most: her family.

Of all the roles she held throughout her life, her favorite was being “Gaga” to her beloved grandchildren, Carter, Kennedy, Landon, and Tanner. They were truly the light of her life. She treasured every moment spent with them, creating memories filled with love, laughter, encouragement, and unwavering support.

Pat was baptized as a young girl and maintained a strong Christian faith throughout her life. She especially loved attending church with her daughter Kimberly and her grandchildren, finding comfort, fellowship, and joy in worship.

Pat is survived by her loving mother, Joyce McDaniel; her devoted children, two sons Brian Moss, Daniel Moss, and daughter Kimberly Hall (Josh); her cherished grandchildren, Carter, Kennedy, Landon, and Tanner; her loving older sister, Brenda Butler (David); her brother, Ronnie McDaniel; her beloved cousin, Margaret Allen; and many dear friends and extended family members who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mills Moss; her father, James McDaniel; and her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Louise Funai.

Throughout her life, Pat embraced the importance of family, education, and faith. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, and cheering for NBA basketball teams. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the University of Michigan Wolverines, a passion inspired by Mills and his alma mater. She loved family vacations and cruises, searching for hidden treasures in thrift stores, and taking fun outings to Rosie's with her mother.

Pat had a warm heart, a gentle spirit, and a steadfast devotion to those she loved. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and was always ready to offer support, encouragement, and a listening ear. Though she was often quiet and humble, her love spoke loudly through her actions and her unwavering presence for family and friends.

Her unexpected passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her. Yet her legacy remains woven into the lives of her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, quiet strength, generous heart, playful humor, and the countless ways she made others feel cared for and valued.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

Pat will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

“Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still” *
