Colonial Heights

Pauline Stalder Cox, 102, of Colonial Heights passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Born in Guysville, Ohio on September 3, 1919, she was the youngest daughter of the late Otto and Susan Stalder, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Warren Adkins Cox; and grandson, Christopher Liam Leavell.

Graduate of Parkersburg High School in West Virginia, she went on to study chemistry at West Virginia Wesleyan College. After college, she spent time in Philadelphia working for Du Pont was a USO Hostess during World War II. Married in 1947, Pauline and her husband lived all around the country, having each of her children born in different states. For nearly 25 years, she was an active Red Cross volunteer, a Reach to Recovery volunteer for cancer, and in the past, was a volunteer at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was also an active member of the Colonial Heights Federated Women’s Club, the Colonial Heights Republican Club, and a willing participant in events at First Christian Church in Petersburg.

After spending 13 years as a stay-at-home mom, she worked for Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital in Riverside, New Jersey as a dietician. Later, she was cafeteria manager for Palmyra School cafeterias in Palmyra, NJ. She also worked as a technician for Philadelphia Health Department in the city laboratory.

She loved her country and appreciated the many opportunities she was offered throughout her life. She dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren and many friends and wants no sorrow expressed over her passing.

She is survived by her four children, James Warren Cox and wife, Linda, Robertt Stephen Cox, Jennifer Cox Ledogar, Susan Cox Leavell, four grandchildren, Kristin Schwader and husband, Paul, Rebecca Thienel and husband, Daniel, Stephanie Turner and husband, Nathan, Michael Ledogar and wife, Sydney; nine great-grandchildren, Jonah Thienel, Jackson Thienel, James Thienel, Caleb Schwader, Elijah Schwader, Adriana Turner, Gemma Turner, Noah Turner, Kellen Leavell; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839 Boone, IA 50037-0839. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
