It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Prakash Dutt Upadhyaya, fondly known as “Chacha” among his family and "Mr. U" to his friends and colleagues. He left this world peacefully at his residence in Colonial Heights, Virginia, on September 6, 2026, at the age of 87. 

Prakash was born in a loving Hindu family in Mohalla: Aliwal in peaceful city: Azamgarh and raised in a tiny, small and loving village: Hathia in the same city Azamgath, U.P., India and carried with him the warmth and values of his homeland when he emigrated to the United States in 1969. Embracing his new country with gratitude, he served with distinction in the U.S. Navy Reserve for over 22 years. His professional journey as a medical librarian took him across Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and Upstate New York, reflecting his dedication and tireless commitment to both his career and his family. 

Preceded in death by his beloved father, Bagish Dutt Upadhyaya (baba); his mother, Shahjadi Devi Upadhyaya (Maiee); his brother, Diwaker Dutt Upadhyaya (bhaiya); and his eldest son, Monoj Kumar Upadhyaya, Prakash is survived by his devoted wife, Kamala Devi Upadhyaya. He is also mourned by his sons, Alok Upadhyaya and Anu Upadhyaya, whom he endearingly called "kid son"; two daughters in-law, Elizabeth Upadhyaya and Shalini Upadhyaya, dear Rhonda Ford; his granddaughters, Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya, Anjali Upadhyaya, Alexandra Devi Upadhyaya, and Anya Upadhyaya; and his gifted grandson, Ajai Kumar Upadhyaya. Prakash also survived by many brothers, nephews, nieces, daughters, grandsons in his extended family in India.

Prakash was known for his profound kindness, unwavering discipline, and deep compassion. His life was a testament to his values of simplicity, integrity, and selfless service. His contributions extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In accordance with his wishes, interment will be private. Although no formal memorial service is planned, friends and family in both the U.S. and India are invited to pay their respects by silently reciting the Hanuman Chalisa or offering their own heartfelt prayers for his soul.

Prakash Dutt Upadhyaya's legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering dedication will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His spirit of kindness and his enduring grace will continue to inspire and uplift those who remember him.
