Rebecca Crowder King, 82, of North Dinwiddie, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Born in Virginia on July 1, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Leon Crowder, III and Mamie Cook Crowder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James H. King; sister, Pamela C. Thrift; and her brother-in-law, John H. Thrift.
Rebecca devoted 17 years to her calling as a Licensed Practical Nurse, beginning her career at Petersburg General Hospital and later serving at Southside Regional Medical Center. Her choice of nursing came from her boundless compassion and pride in caring for others. A faithful member of Christian Community Fellowship in Colonial Heights, she carried her love for God into every part of her life. Rebecca was married to the love of her life, James King, for 58 wonderful years. Together they built a life full of love, raising their children and instilling in them values and the importance of family, kindness, and integrity. She found joy in the beauty of nature, whether birdwatching from her feeder, spending time at the beach, or enjoying the mountains- and she had a tender heart for animals of all kinds. Above all, she cherished her family and friends, loving them deeply and unconditionally.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Lynn Gross, Jeffrey Scott King, and Pamela Susan King (Jeremy Hare); sister-in-law, Doshie K. Powell; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sandy Crowder; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Johnny H. King and Anita King; close friends, Alton Vaughn, Tommy Tucker, Melissa A. Harrell, and Kris Perkins (Smokey Perkins); and other extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the funeral home.
