Richard Wayne Brantley

Richard Wayne Brantley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of his community, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023, at his home in the loving presence of his family. Born in Petersburg, Virginia on November 9, 1946, he was the son of the late Avery Woodrow and Helen Louise Brantley.

Richard dedicated many years of his professional career to Phillip Morris, where he retired as a supervisor. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated exceptional skill, commitment, and earned numerous accolades and honors for his outstanding contributions. His commitment to excellence and leadership earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Beyond his professional achievements, Richard made a significant impact in the world of sports. He served as an official for high school sports, as well as the prestigious MEAC, NCAA, and NFL.

In addition to his involvement in sports, Richard was a compassionate soul with a love for animals. For an impressive 44 years, he dedicated himself to rescuing and rehabilitating horses at the Equine Rescue Farm. His unwavering commitment to these magnificent creatures touched the lives of countless animals and individuals.

Richard's service to his country was evident through his time spent as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He served valiantly during the Vietnam War and in various Middle Eastern countries, demonstrating courage, honor, and patriotism. His commitment to defending the principles he held dear was a testament to his character.

Not only did Richard excel in his professional and military endeavors, but he also possessed a passion for bowling. His skills on the lanes were unmatched, and he had the honor of representing the United States in Germany as a bowling champion with his team.

Among his many achievements, Richard had the distinct honor of being selected as the Grand Marshall of a parade in southwest Virginia. This recognition highlighted his profound impact on his community and the respect he garnered from those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Faye W. Brantley; daughter, Lori M. Grammer and husband, Matt; granddaughter, MacKenzie Grammer; and other extended family members and many friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805.
