Richard Earl Martin Sr., 91, of South Chesterfield, Virginia passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Richmond VA Medical Center. Born on October 18, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gracie Webster Martin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Sunny, and Douglas Martin.

Richard proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, retiring after 22 years of dedicated service. Richard and his wife later owned and operated the Stop and Go Store on Puddledock Road for more than 10 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Petersburg and enjoyed the friendships and fellowship he shared there over the years.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Bernice E. Martin; two sons, Richard Earl “Rickey” Martin Jr. and wife, Vicki, and Steven Thomas “Tommy” Martin and wife, Nena; daughter, Sherry Ann Belcher and husband, Steven; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026 in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, September 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
