Richmond August Wollstein

Richmond August Wollstein departed his earthly home on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a brief illness. Richmond was born November 29, 1952, in Rome (Floyd County,) Georgia. He had resided in Chesterfield County Virginia for the past 50 years. Richmond was a member of the historic St. Joseph Catholic Church in Petersburg, Virginia.

Richmond was a graduate of Berry College, Mount Berry, Georgia; the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, Georgia; Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia; Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, and The University of Richmond, where he received his Juris Doctrine Degree. He was an attorney employed by the Elliott Law Firm in Colonial Heights, Virginia and served as a substitute judge for the Supreme Court of Virginia until his death.

Richmond’s unwavering dedication as both an attorney and substitute judge left an undeniable mark on the judiciary and on every life he touched, reflecting a man who gave his heart and soul in service to his clients and the Commonwealth.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Routledge Wollstein, father, Leo Arnold Wollstein, Sr., father-in-law, Charlie Franklin Carter, brother, Leo Arnold Wollstein, Jr., brother, John Joseph Wollstein. brother-in-law, Richard Avis Jarrett, niece, Katie Odom, and nephew, Richard Tyler Jarrett.

Richmond is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda Carter Wollstein, and his beloved children,  Adam Wollstein and Charlie Rihanna Wollstein. In survivorship are also his siblings: Ellen Carlin Wyatt (Jack), James Michael Wollstein, Rebecca Ann Crews, Mary Helene Wollstein (Steve), Mary Catherine Wollstein, David Francis Wollstein, Stephen Kirk Wollstein, Theodore Christopher Wollstein; sisters-in-law: Glenda Faye Wollstein, Cynthia Zocher (Clay), Alyse Muzette Wozniak (David), Maryanne Carter Jarrett, Jewell Lynn Carter Feenstra (Michael), brother-in-law, Farryl Samuel Essig, and his mother-in-law, Nellie Carter Hinch (Granny) as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

“I loved my son-in-law, Richmond, he cared about all the children in this large family and made himself available to help with everything. He was all about making sure they were taken care of and especially when it came to education. It is difficult to put into words what a truly wonderful man he was”. Love, Granny.

At the express wishes of Richmond no fanfare, no funeral, or memorial services will be held.

Richmond, my darling husband, I will miss holding your hand all night long. I will miss our last conversations about running away to a beach and just enjoying each other when we retire. Until we see each other again, your devoted and loving wife, Glenda Wollstein.
