Rosalyn Stancell, 87, affectionately known as “Tweet,” passed away peacefully at her home in Colonial Heights on Friday, March 6, 2026. She was born March 3, 1939, to the late Willard E. Mears and Doris Richardson Mears and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Gordon Stancell; her son, Jimmy Stancell; and her sister, Patricia Grage. Tweet was a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights for more than 60 years, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Christian Adventure Class, and served on many church committees over the years. She was also involved with the annual Fall Church Bazaar. Her faith and her church family and friends were very important to her. In her earlier years, she delighted in sewing and crafting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity. Cooking, canning, and baking—especially for others—brought her immense joy. She also had a fondness for gardening and sharing her flowers. In more recent years, she enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, and word search puzzles. Mrs. Stancell is survived by two daughters, Celeste Crowder of Colonial Heights and Pam Reid and her husband, Rick, of Chesterfield; three grandchildren, Zack Reid, Maegan Voelkel and her husband, Josh, and Kelsey Reid; one great-grandchild, Lucas Voelkel; another great-grandchild, Baby Voelkel, expected to arrive in September; and a sister, Dolly Bowers of North Carolina, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Crater Community Hospice, especially her nurse, Lindsay, and her aide, Kim, for their care over the last several months. The family was also blessed with wonderful caregivers—Carol, Karen, Pam, Teresa, and Sharon—who allowed Mom to remain in her home, for which they are very thankful. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3701 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Crater Community Hospice or the Colonial Heights Food Pantry. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
