Ruby Whirley Anderson, 90, of S. Chesterfield passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, honesty, and unforgettable moments. Born May 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Janie Whirley, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Anderson; brother, William “Ross” Whirley; and sister, Margaret Clary.

Ruby was known for her straightforward nature. She never hesitated to say what she thought, and for that, she was lovingly known as the Queen. A former member of Ettrick Baptist Church, Ruby enjoyed singing in the choir and sharing her voice with her church community. She worked in the candy department at Grants Department Store before dedicating herself to the role she cherished most, which was being a homemaker and caring for her family.

Ruby loved the simple comforts of life, like watching her favorite TV shows, keeping up with her soap operas, and taking naps that she never apologized for. She was also a devoted wrestling fan and looked forward to cheering on her favorites, The Undertaker, Roman Reigns, and Randy Orton.

Her life motto, “Life’s a bitch,” was her honest way of reminding everyone that life can be tough, but her strength, humor, and resilience always carried her through.

Ruby will be remembered for her loyalty, her love for her family, and the unmistakable personality that made her truly one of a kind. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

May the Queen rest easy… and may heaven be ready for her.

She is survived by her children, Patsy Gwinn, Linda Hopkins, Nancy Anderson; grandsons, Charles Cates, Matthew Cates; beloved granddaughter, Tiffanie Routhier and husband, Justin; favorite grandson, Christian Blank; cherished granddaughter and caregiver, Angelica Blank; sister, Janie Ozmore; and other extended family members.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 12, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A procession will leave the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. for a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia, 23805.
