Bartol, Rudolph (Rudy) W. 89

Died Sunday, December 21, 2025. He was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Rudolph J, and Anna Matthews Bartol. He graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School, attended V.C.U. and John Randolph Colleges. His parents, and a sister, Patricia Ann Bartol, a brother Francis L. Bartol, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Rebecca Lorraine Bartol; sons Rudolph J. “RJ” Bartol (Marguerite), and Lawrence William “Larry” Bartol (Patti); one daughter Theresa Marie Morris (Kenneth) all from the Richmond area; stepson, Mark Steven Cheek of Chesterfield County; stepdaughter, Rhonda Lorraine Koon of Dinwiddie County; as well as nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

In the 1970’she formed Rudy’s TV and Appliance, in Chesterfield County, with his son Larry. When the business was sold, it was the largest independent TV and Appliance business in Virginia. He helped form Chester Little League Baseball while living in Chesterfield County.

Mr. Bartol retired from Lone Star Industry and continued with Tarmac America when they purchased the company. In 1989 the company transferred him to North Carolina as General Manager. He retired after 41 years.

The couple made their home in Bertie County, in the town of Windsor, N.C. He was on the board that formed the county’s YMCA; he was president of the Rotary Club of Windsor, served as Vice Chairman and then Chairman for Region Q Private Industry Council representing Bertie County. He was on the county’s ABC Board and also served on the Planning Board for the Town of Windsor.

He proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and was given an Honorable Discharge.

Among his hobbies was woodworking, computers, and he was known as the unofficial family genealogist.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 West Hundred Road, Chester, Virginia 23831.

Arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Condolences may be registered online at ealvinsmall.com.
