Sarah Aileen Barnes, 83, of N. Dinwiddie passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Born April 16, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Sadie Toler, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Derwood Ernest Barnes; and brothers, Buddy and Steve Toler.
Sarah was known for her warm and welcoming personality. She had an infectious energy that drew people towards her, and she had a way of making everyone feel like they were her best friend. She loved meeting new people and never knew a stranger. Her passion for socializing was evident in everything she did.
One of Sarah’s greatest pleasures in life was going out to eat. She loved trying new restaurants. She was also a fan of karaoke and dancing.
Another passion of Sarah’s was Halloween. She loved nothing more than dressing up in elaborate costumes and participating in all the festivities that came with the holiday. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and she made Halloween a memorable event every year.
She had a deep appreciation for lighthouses and had a nice collection of them in her home.
Celebrating her birthday was another important event for Sarah. Her joy and excitement were contagious, and her birthday celebrations will be fondly remembered by all who attended.
Sarah Aileen Barnes was a bright light in our lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and joy that will continue to inspire us for years to come. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Barnes, Laura Crabtree and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Shannon Stanley and husband, Bryan, Dustin Sadler and wife, Nicole, April Weatherford and husband, Gavin, Daniel Crabtree; great-grandchildren, Aiden Stanley, Kaitlin Stanley, Kason Sadler, Ava Weatherford, Macon Sadler, Josie Weatherford, Reid Crabtree; siblings, Shirley Toler, Carolyn Eubanks, Faye Ryder, Joyce Nolen, Janice Richards, Linda Jernigan, Hilda Keene; and other extended family members and many friends. The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Sarah's caretaker Lisa Carter, for her extraordinary care and compassionate nature during Sarah's time of need.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, April 25, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S.
