Shirley Talley Williams, 89, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 Born December 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clyde and Marian Moody Talley, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Virginius Cleveland Williams, Jr.
Shirley's commitment to her faith was unwavering. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she found solace, support, and strength through her spiritual community. Additionally, she frequently attended Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and The Sanctuary Church in Colonial Heights, where she cherished the fellowship and spiritual guidance provided by these congregations. Shirley's faith was a guiding light in her life, and she sought to live out its teachings through acts of kindness, compassion, and love for her neighbors.
From a young age, she discovered a passion for figure skating, and it became a significant part of her life. Shirley, along with her daughters, embraced the beauty of gliding across the rink, and were members of the Petersburg and Chester Skateland.
Shirley dedicated many years of her life to different grocery stores in the area, including Winn Dixie, Ukrops, and Martins, where she brightened the days of countless customers with her warm smile and friendly demeanor. Her work ethic, integrity, and willingness to go the extra mile left an indelible mark on the hearts of both her colleagues and patrons.
She is survived by her son, Robert C. Williams; daughters, Belinda Gail Torres and husband, Luis, Patricia W. Cebula and husband, Craig S.; four grandchildren, Laura Torres, Mary Harbison, Kyle Williams, Mark Williams; three great-grandchildren, Braden Harbison, Ethan Harbison, Windsor Gilbert; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at The Sanctuary, 505 Lakeview Ave, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local SPCA or to The Sanctuary. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
