Ssang Yim Clowdis, 89, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was born on December 15, 1933, in Korea. Mrs. Ssang was a Senior Deaconess of the Full Gospel Korean Church of Hopewell, Va. She was employed for many years at the Fort Lee Alterations shop on Fort Lee, Va. Afterwards, she dedicated her life to raising her two children, Shirlee and David. Her husband, John, served Honorably in the United States Army, and she was truly devoted to supporting his career. Ssang was also an avid gardener. Her home was surrounded by beautiful flower arrangements and a large vegetable garden. She always shared her vegetables with all of her friends and family members.
Ssang was preceded in death by her husband, John Clowdis, and her daughter, Shirley. She leaves behind a son, David; grandson, Zachary Benson; granddaughter, Jordan Benson; as well as a son-in-law, Michael Benson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow with no procession in Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Road Chester, Virginia 23831.
