Suzanne Trent “Dee” Owens, of Chesterfield, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Suzanne was born November 24, 1942, to the late Everett Deaton and Elizabeth Pinson Trent. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert Wayne Owens “Poppy”.

Suzanne is survived by her three children, Vickie O. Cheatham, Robert Wesley Owens (Brenda), and Julie O. Matre (Richard); four grandchildren, Michael (Casey), Andrew (Carrie), and Joseph Cheatham (Jennie), and Deaton Owens; four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Charlotte, Cameron, and Hazel Cheatham; sister, Deata Trent; Niece Natalie E. McConnell; and nephew, Charles E. McConnell.

Suzanne’s life was one of deep faith, fierce love, and generous hospitality. She leaves behind a legacy that will be felt for generations.

Suzanne made her home in Richmond, Virginia, where she raised her children with a steady hand and an open heart. After retirement, she moved to Conway, South Carolina, where she made her home for twenty years and became a treasured part of the community.

A faithful member of Conway United Methodist Church, Suzanne lived her faith daily and lifted her voice in song as a member of the church choir. She was also an avid member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a devoted bridge player who relished a good game and good company.

Cooking was Suzanne’s love language. She never turned down a request, no matter how complicated the dish. Her cherry yum yum, fried chicken, and cookies were the stuff of legend, and her reputation spread so far that neighbors, having heard of her cooking, would ask her to prepare a meal for them. Every table she set was a gift, and every gathering was brighter for her presence. She was truly the life of the party.

To her grandchildren, she was “Dee,” and she was a force to be reckoned with. Her moral compass never wavered, and she dedicated her life to instilling those values in her children and grandchildren. Through her example, she taught them integrity, kindness, and the courage to do what is right.

Above all, Suzanne treasured her husband, Robert, known to the grandchildren as “Poppy.” He was the love of her life. Suzanne loved music, and she danced with Robert her entire life, moving through the years together with joy and devotion. Their love was the heart of her family.

Suzanne’s love lives on in every family recipe, every lesson passed down, and every heart she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A graveside service for Suzanne and Robert will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2026, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.
