Sylvia Osmundson Massey, 89, of Disputanta, VA, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Born in Chesapeake, VA on July 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry Osmundson, Sr. and Margaret Dewberry Osmundson. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Walter Rufus Massey, Jr. and her brother, Thomas Henry Osmundson, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret Norwood; daughters, Tammy Buffkin (Dave, deceased), Cindy Mackiewicz (Mitch), and Mary Herald (Timmy); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Sylvia was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Disputanta, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life. She dedicated many years of service to the Prince George County School System, working as a secretary. Sylvia was also an active member of the Woman’s Club and in her free time, enjoyed sewing, painting, and cooking.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
