Thurman Elliott Elmore, 88, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 23, 2023. Born on May 19, 1934, in Colonial Heights, Virginia, he was the son of the late Thomas Branch Elmore and Dolly Martin Elmore. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas Elmore; his sister, Theresa Talbott; and a brother.
Thurman served in the United States Air Force, dedicating over 20 years of faithful service. He worked in radar detection (NORAD), and was stationed in many areas, including Alaska, the Philippines, and Germany. He then retired from Honeywell after working over 20 years as a chemical operator. Thurman was a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Colonial Heights. He was a devoted Scriptorian, often found studying the Bible and reciting scripture. He and his wife, Liz married for 40 years, were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Thurman also loved his pets, traveling, and watching the rainfall. He will be missed immensely by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Isabelle “Liz” R. Elmore; his four daughters, Crystal Murphy (Bob) Houston, Texas, Joanne Ehler (Gordon, deceased) St. George, Utah, Tami Daniels (Steve) Smithfield, Utah, and Theresa Phillips (Terry) Quincey, Florida; his step-children, Jessica Sears Younce (Mark) Colonial Heights, Virginia, Tara Portee (Larry) South Chesterfield, Virginia and Nathan Burton, Colonial Heights, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members and friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 4:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 501 Compton Road Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
