Vivian T. Maitland

Vivian T. Maitland, 94, of Colonial Heights, passed away at Brighter Living Assisted Living on July 29, 2023. Vivian was born on January 13, 1929, with a loving and caring soul that lasted her lifetime and was shared with her community and family. Vivian was a very special genteel Southern Baptist woman. She was civic minded as was shown in her involvement in Swift Creek Baptist Church (current member), Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Civitan International, and Alpha Delta Kappa among others. Vivian was a graduate of the University Of North Carolina, Greensboro where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. She was a teacher at several Virginia schools and retired from Colonial Heights High School after over 20 years. She often stated how much she enjoyed her students and watching them learn and grow.

Vivian was one of seven siblings born to Jesse and Mary Trevathan. She was married to Robert S. Maitland for 54 happy and devoted years and together had three children, Robert Maitland III (whom preceded her in death). She is survived by her daughter, Pamela M. Lee (married to James S. Lee Jr.) and son, James H. Maitland (married to Joanne Maitland). Her 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren include, Robert Lee, Stephen Lee (deceased), James Maitland Jr., Jamie Cooper, Christopher Cooper, Melissa Misner and their families.

Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in Capron Cemetery, Pinopolis Road Capron, Virginia 23829. Arrangements are handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, Colonial Heights, Virginia.
