Walter E. Cheely Sr., 87, of Colonial Heights, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at McGuire Veterans Hospital. He was the son of the late Walter Leonard and Bessie Williams Cheely, and was preceded in death by his brothers, R. Wilson and Robert Cheely and sisters, Elizabeth Daniels and Mary Williams. Mr. Cheely was a retired carrier for the Colonial Heights Post Office and a WW II Navy veteran and member of the VFW Post 7241 Port Jervis N.J., Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Petersburg. He is survived by two sons, James Cheely of Colonial Heights, and W. Earl Cheely, Jr. and wife Bonnie of Chesterfield; one daughter, Susan Eileen Barrett and husband Robert of Port St. Lucie, Florida; one sister, Maria C. Kosec of Ohio; grandchildren, Jessica Cheely, Christopher Cheely, Jennifer Outlaw-Thompson, Jason Outlaw, Keri Cheely, Sonny Cheely, and Jacklyn Lodi Cheely. A funeral service will take place Saturday May 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday, May 30, 2008 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
