Walter David Moore III, 66, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 10, 2025. He was born in Petersburg on February 22, 1959, to Ruby Jean Mosconi and Walter David Moore, Jr.

Whether you knew him as Walter… Dave… Bubba… He was so much to so many… a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, a businessman, a jokester, and all-around amazing human being. Although he had no children of his own, he was a father figure with his words of wisdom and constant compassion for those he held dearest. Funny is an understatement; he was hilarious. He could make anyone smile even on their darkest of days. He was a charming, handsome man with a warm smile and a big heart… the life of the party… and the best storyteller anyone has ever known. His enthusiasm was infectious. His confidence and charisma made everyone joyful. He was a dedicated supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He attended and promoted many fundraisers for the cause.

He was loyal, dedicated, and devoted to his family and friends. He loved his momma deeply and danced with her every chance he had. He had a strong work ethic and proved to be talented at all he aspired to accomplish. He was a self-made man who owned his own paving company. He was an avid art collector and enthusiast. He had a passion for making art and took pride in being a professional hardscaper. He took great pride in playing hockey. Dave was the goal-tending anchor of more than ten teams. He will be greatly missed by his dear friends and teammates, Steve Logue and Elliott Park, as well as all his other hockey teammates. He enjoyed traveling and finding adventure wherever he went. His love for the ocean was clear. He took pride in dressing up and going out, sporting his favorite cowboy boots. He was the essence of ZZ Top’s “sharp dressed man”. He enjoyed hosting family and friends at his home. He made some of the best daiquiris ever tasted and there wasn’t a Dutch apple pie that he ever turned down.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmie and Willie Mae Hardin (maternal), Walter David Moore, Sr. and Josephine Dooley (paternal); father, Walter David Moore, Jr., stepfather, Joseph Mosconi; brother, Jeffrey Scott Moore; uncle, Albert Moore; nephew, Dale Wood.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Jean Mosconi; siblings, Kathy Cimburke (Donny), Shari Olden (Tim), Houston Moore, and Michael Moore; nieces and nephews, Samantha Phillips-Wall (Marvin), Angela Sharp (Tom), Jeffrey Steven Moore (Tonya), and Jesse Phillips (Shannon); great-nephews, Jaelin (Haileigh), Giovanni, Gavin, Andrew, Jacob, Hudson, Logan, Braxton, and Asher; great-nieces, Hailey, Briana, Autumn, Leila, and Gabby; great-great-nephew, Whitten; great-great-nieces, Lola and Kora; many cousins and extended family; devoted friends, John Milano and Joe Lewis; and a great host of friends, too numerous to mention.

Dave’s family will be welcoming friends and loved ones for a viewing on Friday, October 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Dave’s family is requesting monetary donations made in his honor for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, https://www.cff.org/donate in lieu of flowers.
