William “Bill” Morris Hess, 78, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Born in Lockport, New York, on July 16, 1947, he was the son of the late William Arnold Hess and Caroline Bear Hess.
Bill was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served two years during the Vietnam War. He went on to work in the Mapping Division of the Department of Defense, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Parish in Prince George County for over two years. Bill lived a simple and content life. He was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed spending time at home, and had a passion for music, playing the piano, trumpet, guitar, and many other instruments. One of his greatest joy’s was being “Papa” to his beloved grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cynthia S. Hess; sons, Randy Hess (Nickie), Matthew Hess (Barbara), and Andrew Hess; grandsons, Gabriel and Liam Hess; brother, Wayne Hess (Olivia); sisters, Carolyn Hess, Suzanne Lacks (Chris), and Rebecca Hebner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Parrish, 8211 Prince George Drive, Disputanta, Virginia, 23842. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
