William “Bill” Earl Markins, 84, of Chester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026.

Born on February 4, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Bill was the beloved son of the late Jack C. Markins and Viola C. Markins.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard L. Markins, Rose Lee Viles, Betty Jean Childers, Wanda L. Reynolds, Mary Jane Jones, and Daniel Ray Markins, as well as his son, William Lee Markins.

Bill is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Jane Ann Markins; his sister, Patty Ives and husband Bill; daughters, Regina Baldwin and husband Danny, and Sharon Markins; sons, Richard Markins and Brandon Markins and wife Kelsey; and former daughters-in-law Denise Markins and Amy Markins.

He was a proud grandfather to Michael Markins and wife Tracy, Matthew Markins, Megan Biggs, Josh Markins and wife Morgan, David Markins and wife Lyndsie, Seth Markins, Chris Markins and wife Jessica, Gunner Markins, and Lucas Biggs.

Bill was also blessed with many cherished great-grandchildren: Bailey Markins, Colton Markins, Rhett Markins, Callahan Markins, Maisyn Markins, Emersynn Markins, Grady Markins, Caroline Markins, Bowie Markins, and McCoy Markins. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Bill was a well-known local businessman for more than 40 years, respected for his quality trim carpentry work and dedication to his craft. Throughout his career, he worked alongside many reputable builders and took great pride in the homes and projects he helped create. Outside of work, Bill enjoyed a lifetime of playing guitar and spending time fishing, two hobbies that brought him great joy and many treasured memories with family and friends.

A visitation and memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 20, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, located at 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that small donations be made to the charity of your choice in Bill’s memory.

William “Bill” Earl Markins will be remembered for his love of family, his strength, and the kindness he shared throughout his life. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
