William "Doug" Temple

William Douglas (Doug) Temple of Colonial Heights, Virginia was ushered into the presence of his heavenly father on October 19, 2021.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Temple; his children Melissa Hull (Randy), Jennifer Anastasia, and Matthew Grammer (Lori).  He is also survived by 5 grandchildren.

Doug served as a military police soldier in the United States Army for 6 years.  Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he began a 33-year career in federal civil service at Fort Lee, Virginia.  During his 33 years at Fort Lee, he conducted a multitude of military operations supporting the Army mission.

Upon retirement, Doug served his community in many capacities.  He served as an usher at The Heights Baptist Church for 30 years.  He served for 20 years as a volunteer on the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew.  He was also an Auxiliary Police Officer with the Colonial Heights Police Department.

In addition to his official community service, Doug was always lending a helping hand to friends in need and volunteering behind the scenes to encourage and support everyone he knew.  He was passionate about voting and supported the voting process through various campaign missions and working voting polls during elections.  He loved genealogy, and enjoyed uncovering fascinating family facts.

In recent years, he became less active and unable to participate in his passions, though he believed he lived a long and productive life, praising God for all the many blessings He showed upon him.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 23 at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, VA 23834 or https://thb.church/give/ .
