Dwayne Neil Wohnig, 58, of Disputanta passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Born in Petersburg, Virginia on October 26, 1963, he was the son of Jerry Neil Wohnig and Love Elder Williams. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph “Docky” and Mary A. Elder; paternal grandparents, Max Earl and Estelle Inge Wohnig; stepfather, W. D. Williams; mother-in-law, Velma Riddle Novak; and many other beloved family members.
Dwayne grew up in Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. He was the co-founder and current president of Swift Creek Contracting, which specializes in commercial paving. As president of the company, Dwayne was dedicated and had an amazing work ethic.
He attended and was a fan of all things Virginia Tech. As an avid outdoorsman, Dwayne spent countless hours hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Virginia Deer Hunter’s Association and Duck’s Unlimited Virginia Chapter. A family-oriented person, he cherished every minute he had with his family and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving devoted wife and sweetheart of 31 years, Rhonda Novak Wohnig; cherished son, Garrett Neil Harrison Wohnig; father, Jerry Neil Wohnig; mother, Love Elder Williams and companion, John Sandford; three adored nieces, Brittany J. Horak, Lacie H. Leming and husband, David, and Taylor M. Horak; brother, Brian Neil Wohnig and wife, Jenny and daughter, Madison; best friends, Terri and Kenny Horak and their daughter, Kaitlyn; lifelong friend, Mike Schnell and wife, Rita; brother-in-law, Kent Novak and wife, Sherry; sister-in-law, Tina Horak and Mark; other extended family members and many friends; and beloved puppy, Cricket-Anne.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be private. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
