Herbert Nelson Allgood, 85, of Dinwiddie County, passed away at John Randolph Medical Center on Thursday, March 19, 2020. He was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on January 21, 1935 to the late Clarence and Estelle Allgood. Since 1973 Mr. Allgood was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and worked with the bus ministries. He also served his country as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class in the United States Navy and worked for Brown and Williamson for 26 years and for Hopewell Bus Garage for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Brown. Mr. Allgood is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy H. Allgood; brothers and sisters, Frances Bishop, Myrtle Hooper (OB), Clarence E. Allgood (Alta), Nancy Tatumn (Edward), and Woodrow Chandler (Joan); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew; sister-in-law, Joyce Thomas (Morris), of Alabama and brother-in-law CB Howerton. The family would especially like to recognize Clarence Herbert “Jake” Allgood who was like their son and was named after him; Terry Lynn Cottongin (Lee) and daughter, Nichole, from Alabama; Keith Thomas; Ruby Couch and Smokey; and special friends, John and Vivian Harrell.
