Jon Mckee

April 23, 1940 — September 17, 2021

Jon Kenneth McKee, 81, of Chesterfield passed away suddenly on Friday, September 17, 2021. Born in Mason City, Iowa on April 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Jeanette McKee, and was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Thomas and Ardelis Malone; and brothers-in-law, Malcolm Thomas, Sr. and Jay Whitt.

He lived in Billings, Montana and Phoenix, Arizona, where he graduated with a construction engineering degree from Arizona State University. A proud veteran, Jon served as an officer in the United States Air Force for four years during the Vietnam War. While he was stationed at Fort Lee, he met the love of his life, JoNell Goodwyn. Jon worked briefly as an engineer at Hercules in Hopewell after his time with the Air Force. He worked for Peter Kiewit as a project engineer working on missile sites in Montana. Jon also worked for G.E. Johnson Construction Company in Colorado Springs, Colorado and became Senior Project Manager, where he did extensive construction projects in Vail, Beaver Creek, and Breckenridge. He also worked for Skanska U.S.A. out of Denver. Throughout his career, he built numerous projects from schools and hospitals to multimillion-dollar developments throughout the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. After retirement, his family moved to Chesterfield, Virginia. Since he was not one to fully retire, he worked for 12 years at Chesdin Boat Sales at Seven Springs Marina, helping anyone in need. As an outdoorsman, Jon spent many hours hunting and fishing, restoring old cars and boats and was an avid gardener. He loved sharing photos of nature with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, JoNell Goodwyn McKee; children, Cathy Jo McKee DiMento (Danny), Christopher Jon McKee; beloved grandchildren, Josephine and John DiMento; sister, Marla Whitt; brother, Joe McKee (Kathy); brother-in-law, Jerry Malone; sisters-in-law, Kathy Hall, Judy Cates; beloved pets, Sophi, Cooper, and Olive; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
