Max Apodaca, Jr., 86, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, went to be with the Lord, whom he loved and served, on Friday, March 24, 2023. During his last days, he could be heard praying and singing hymns. He was born on June 7, 1936, in Colorado to the late Max Apodaca, Sr. and Rose DeLeon Apodaca. He was also preceded in death by his son, Elvie Apodaca; two daughters, Rhonda Dillon and Theresa Adams; two brothers, Jimmy Apodaca and Arsenio Apodaca; and a sister, Isabel Espinosa.

Max served in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Navy Reserves. He also worked for and retired from the Department of the Army at Fort Lee, Virginia. He received his Masters Degree and was a substitute and tutor for various local schools. Max loved to tend to his yard and was the jack of all trades. He was also known for his punctuality – always making sure to never be late. Max was also an avid Broncos fan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Joy Apodaca; son, Max Apodaca III; daughter, Kristin Wasilewski; son, Jonathan Wasilewski; sisters, Lora Armijo (Phil) and Lydia Apodaca; grandchildren, Alison (Mike), Max IV (Kailee), Marina, Henry, Brian, Justin, Michelle, Mindy, Ericka, Alesha, Albee, and Noah; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Brenda Redfern; brothers-in-law, Tom Redfern and Butch Kitchen; special daughter-in-law, Ann Spain (Chris); son-in-law, Troy Adams; special friend, Barbara Vaughan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family would like to specially thank Crater Community Hospice for their help in getting them through their last days with Max.

A private graveside service will be held in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road S. Prince George, Virginia 23805 with the Reverend Mike Buckley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope 21 Ministries, 19110 Carson Road
Dinwiddie, Virginia 23841, or Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S Crater Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
