Virginia Morris

Virginia C. "Jean" Morris, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at VCU Massey Cancer Center.

She was the daughter of the late Martin Henry Cookendoffer and Margaret Reges Stoddard. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Henry Morris, Jr.; and son, William “Buddy” Henry Morris, III; her sister, Anna E. Byrd; and grandson, Grayson P. Austin.  She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.  She was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 284 and a member of the VFW Auxiliary #2239.  She had belonged to the Christians Women’s Club and the Garden Club.  She retired as credit clerk from Seward Luggage Company, in Petersburg, after 35 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy L. Martin and husband, Paul of Colonial Heights; her daughter-in-law, Linda M. Morris Cairns and husband, Tom of Colonial Heights; four grandchildren, Dawn M. Upton (Mitch); Melinda M. Austin (Calvin); Paul A. Martin, Jr. (Rebecca) and James “Matt” M. Martin; five great grandchildren, Haley M. Upton, Olivia R. Upton, Sterling W. Austin, Adalynn S. Martin, Olivia R. Martin and expecting her seventh great grandchild in May (Baby Martin); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with Rev. Steve Lalk officiating.  Masks are required for attendance. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
