William Slate, Sr.

William Milton Slate, Sr., 94, formally of Colonial Heights passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021. He was the son of the late William Meade and Ann Elizabeth Rose Slate. William was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Elsie Dunnavant Slate; and five sisters, Clarice Doyle, Ellen Danby, Kathryn Spain, Elizabeth Maitland, and Frances Cain. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights where he served as a deacon and trustee. William also taught Sunday school and was active in the youth group at church. He is survived by his son, William Milton Slate, Jr. (Christine); daughter, Deborah Slate Howard (Gregory), and granddaughter, Karina Grace Howard. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, VA 23805. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601. The Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
