Judith Ann Morelle, aged 74, passed away on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at home surrounded by her family, after a short battle with cancer. Judy was born on January 3rd, 1950, to the late, Rosemary and William Schuff in Utica, NY where she grew up with her brother Jim.

 

After high school, in 1968 Judy married John R. Morelle I, going on to have two children, John II and Michael. Widowed in 1974. As a single Mother, Judy worked in the service industry to support her family. In 1984, Judy met David Paul “Dave” Smyth, her true love and life partner. After both retired from St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica, New York, Judy and Dave relocated to Colonial Heights, Virginia, to be closer to her grandson.

 

Spending time with Anthony was Judy’s favorite thing to do whether picking him up from school, fixing his favorite snack, watching him play his favorite game, or enjoying lunch together. Judy had two wonderful caregivers Pam Lauter and Tracy Harrison, whom she affectionately referred to as “My Tracy Girl”.

 

Judy is survived by her sons; John Morelle II, and Michael Morelle, both of Dinwiddie, loving Niece; Yvonne Peckham and Mark Burgmaier (Markie Farkles) of Jacksonville, NC, her sister-in-law; Elizabeth Eaton, brother-in-law; Frank Morelle of Utica, NY, the light of her life, her Grandson; Anthony Morelle, Anthony’s mother; Alexandra Glasscock of Colonial Heights and her cantankerous cat; Roxy.

 

She was preceded in death by both parents, husband; John Morelle I, brother; James Schuff, Sister; Judith Rose Schuff, and the love of her life; Dave Smyth, just 6 months ago.

 

A joint Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held for both Judy and Dave in Utica, New York, at a later date, as she requested.

 

Everyone who knew Judy felt her kind heart, and gentle, giving nature. Judy was a lifelong supporter of the SPCA, and numerous other animal rights and rescue groups including Semper K9. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local shelter in memory of her.
